Altough im an Agnostic Atheist a Christian once explained the whole metal deal as following: "Christians are supposed to glorify God in everything their doing and engaging in. Metal music serves man and gives no glory to God" Thoughts?

Long story: I am born disabled (hydrocephalus and cerebral palsy) , but cannot receive disability benefits. I’ve worked off and on for the last 10 years, and left my former employer (5.5 years) for the possibility of a remote position. I worked remote for 2 months, got fired in January, and have job hopped until now. To say that I’m not angry at GOD would be a lie, because I want to be employed (1st Thessalonians 4:11). I don’t understand where He’s taking me and I don’t understand why I’m not being chosen to work when I have the credentials. I was fired from my most recent job, and cannot receive unemployment benefits because the non-profit job didn’t pay into them, so the temp jobs I’ve had since then didn’t pay enough for me to get them. I’m tired of asking people to help me when my parents raised me with the mindset that I need to be completely independent even though they know I’m disabled and shouldn’t really be working at all. I’ve asked my church for help during this time and they have protocol, so I’m not eligible for them to help me again until next year. My family doesn’t help me, because of how they raised me. I’m at a loss. I’m again, at the lowest of the low and don’t have a solution.

This is what I dont like about Christianity: it wants people to be poor, broken, and needy and against people being rich and having their needs met. People are not dependable and often use your neediness to hurt you.

God has blessed me tremendously through Metallica’s music. God used it to grow a love of guitar in me that birthed a 20 year career in music ministry. Now my little ones love Metallica and debate the lyrics with me while we use it as launch points for deeper discussions. This is a phenomenal band and I pray Hatfield and the other guys know Christ and His forgiveness forever. Thanks for sharing this.

As a gay person, I agree with Dr. Gushee that LGBTQ individuals be held to the same covenant standards as straight individuals. But ... is celibacy before marriage, and life-long monogamy in marriage, the only way for Christians to go? That may have been true when people often married at the age of 12 (girls) and 14 (boys) and died in their 30s or 40s. But today people generally marry in their 20s or 30s, and died in their 80s or 90s. So ... remain celibate for all that unmarried time, learn nothing? I disagree. Once married, you are in it for life? What about the fact that people change, that marriage can become a cage for abuse, and only a healthy person will get out of a sick situation. Christian ethics needs more sophistication today.

I love this story because it tells us what it means to be empathetic, human and love even if it wasn't what you planned and in real life it doesn't always end with what you want but what you experience learning to grow form it is why I love the original story more than Disney.

I do resonate with these explanations , it does feel authentic to me. I just need to know for sure that it is not homophobic because I am LGBTQ and proud of it . That said, I love the social intelligence part. Enthusiasm, energy , gratitude, genuiness all these things when in balance are what I receive from the teachings of Christ. The spirit proceeds from the Father only. The fact that Jesus shares this same Spirit as the Father does not show that the spirit originated with Jesus, but that it originates with the Father and the son sharing divine essence with the father also partakes of His spirit. For some this might seem like a moot point but it is essential. It's what caused the great schism for the most part.if we all to follow God, we are to understand the relationship between the three persons of the God head to the best of our human capabilities.

THE KINGDOM OF "HEAVEN" JUST MEANS THE KINGDOM OF GOD, ON EARTH...INSIDE PEOPLE, NOW! In the Gospels, the phrase "Kingdom of HEAVEN" was just another way of saying "Kingdom of GOD." Jews often substituted the word "Heaven," the place where God lives, in place of the word "God," because they felt it was irreverent to say "God." But so many Christians who read the expression "Kingdom of Heaven" think it's talking about entering the PLACE called "Heaven," when it's simply referring to the theocratic government ON EARTH that most of the Jews of Jesus' day believed God would re-establish in Israel by sending a special king to set them free from the Romans--the Messiah. To make things worse, many Neo Evangelical preachers and teachers then go on to, falsely, interpret the expression "cannot enter the Kingdom of God" as if it means "going to Hell," which is a complete fallacy! "Entering" the Kingdom of God simply meant a person would become a citizen in the new, earthly, independent Jewish government, and not getting to "enter" that kingdom, just meant a person would be denied citizenship...for a time! The thing to understand is that most of the Jews of Jesus' day believed those who would not immediately get citizenship in the coming kingdom would continue to live on earth, but with a much lower social status, not too unlike the world they actually lived in where Roman citizens had many more privileges than did everyone else! Basically, they were looking forward to the tables being turned, with Jews holding the best privileges in the world, and non-Jews having their social statuses reduced. Consequently, most people would end up as peasants, at least to begin with. However, it's not as if anyone would be actively made to suffer! When we read about the religious hypocrites that Jesus criticized the most, not getting to "enter" the Kingdom, and how they'll respond by crying a lot and their teeth chattering, "weeping and gnashing their teeth," it's referring to how deeply disappointed these people will be as they are, so to speak, getting "sent out into the cold," that is, exiled...but not getting burned alive! Because they, for their great outward piety, anticipated getting not only citizenship but many other rewards, such as appointments to prestigious government jobs, they will be shocked to learn "sinners and publicans" will get their "green cards" long before they do...though Jesus never condemned them to eternal exile...he just said they would be the LAST to get their citizenship requests approved, once they show their hearts have really changed. Of course, the REAL question is whether Jesus, himself, believed in the popular idea of his day about a literal Jewish government taking over the world, and the answer seems likely to be, "No!" Toward the end of his public ministry, he began to let it be known what he believed was the REAL "Kingdom," a place inside the hearts and minds of PEOPLE (Luke 17:20-21) who had embraced his message of personal change, to reject leading lives of hurting others to embrace the joyous life of doing good and helping the suffering!
